We are excited to invite you to participate in the first edition of the brand new international conference ScienceCon, accompanied by THE Impact Rankings 2022 Awards Gala. The event is organized by PCG Academia, Times Higher Education and global publishing house Elsevier. The conference will be held on May 18, 2022 at the Collegium Novum building, which is the seat of the Jagiellonian University authorities in Cracow.

The ScienceCon conference will be inaugurated by the representatives of the organizers and patrons of the event. Prof. Łukasz Sułkowski (President of PCG Polska), Prof. Arkadiusz Mężyk (President of Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland) and Prof. Jerzy Woźnicki (President of Polish Rectors Foundation) will deliver their speeches. A speech of the representative of the Minister of National Education is also planned.

The conference proceedings will start with a presentation of the statistical summary of the recently completed process of evaluation of scientific activities for the 2017-2021 period. The presentation will be led by Mr. Marek Michajłowicz, Deputy Director of the National Information Processing Institute – National Research Institute, the organization responsible for collecting and analyzing data in the process of parametric evaluation of universities.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion dedicated to conclusions drawn from the evaluation of scientific activities and to directions for further development of this process in Poland. The debate moderated by Prof. Łukasz Sułkowski will be attended by: Phil Baty (Chief Knowledge Officer, Times Higher Education), Prof. Lauritz Holm-Nielsen (Rector Emeritus, Aarhaus University), Prof. Stanislaw Kistryn (Rector’s Plenipotentiary for cooperation within Una Europa, Jagiellonian University) and Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska (Rector, University of Lodz).

After the lunch break, we have planned a panel discussion on building the reputation of the university on the international arena with the use of modern IT solutions such as repository systems or CRIS. To the debate moderated by Piotr Masalski (Sciencecloud Product Director, PCG Academia) we invited Michelle Mennielli (Senior Global Strategist, LYRASIS), Marek Michajłowicz (Deputy Director, National Information Processing Institute) and Tomasz Psonka (Research Solutions for CEE, Elsevier).

The highlight of the event will be the Award Gala for Polish universities ranked in the newest Times Higher Education ranking. THE Impact Rankings is the only international ranking of universities based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The ceremony will be preceded by a presentation led by Times Higher Education representatives – Phil Baty and Michael Lubacz. The experts will explain the methodology of the rankings and share the conclusions drawn from the data submitted by more than 1,200 universities from around the world.

The ScienceCon conference will become a regular event, permanently linked with the announcement of the Times Higher Education ranking results. The addressees of the conference are those responsible for the management of science and sustainable development of universities – authorities, directors, managers.
