IV Conference for Leaders in University Management LUMEN 2018
The fourth edition of the Conference for Leaders of University Management LUMEN 2018 was held on November 27 in Warsaw. The theme of the Conference were the practical aspects of implementation of the new law on science and higher education in Poland, called Act 2.0 or Constitution for Science.
The initiator and main organizer of the LUMEN conference is PCG Academia. This year, the main partner of the Conference was a global provider of solutions supporting distance learning - Blackboard. The substantive patronage over the LUMEN project since 2015 is held by the Polish Rectors Foundation chaired by Professor Jerzy Woźnicki.
LUMEN 2018 conference was attended by more than 300 university management professionals – rectors, prorectors, chancellors and managers from over 140 institutions throughout the country. The conference was solemnly opened by the President of PCG Academia, Professor Łukasz Sułkowski, along with Piotr Müller - Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education, Professor Jerzy Woźnicki - President of the Polish Rectors Foundation, and Professor Jan Szmidt - President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland.
The further program of the Conference was carried out in two parallel paths concerning the implementation strategy of the Constitution for Science at Polish universities and the effective use of IT in the context of this reform.
The debate about the Act 2.0 began with the discussion panel moderated by Professor Jerzy Woźnicki. The discussion was attended by Deputy Minister of Science and Higher Education Piotr Müller and Professors: Krzysztof Diks (President of Polish Accreditation Committee), Zbigniew Marciniak (President of General Council of Science and Higher Education), and Jan Szmidt (President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland).
Later in the day, the reform was also discussed in the context of the third mission of the university, new disciplines, and new paths of advancing scientific career, as well as in the context of the federations established by the universities. Representatives of important academic centers took part in the discussion, including Professors: Dominik Antonowicz, Witold Bielecki, Krzysztof J. Filipiak, Anna Giza-Poleszczuk, Dariusz Jemielniak, Marek Kwiek, Aneta Pawłowska, Arkadiusz Radwan, Anna Rogut, Łukasz Sułkowski, Janusz Szambelańczyk, and Maciej Zabel, together with representatives of the business world: Marek Jakimowicz, Phillip Miller, Piotr Ogonowski, Karina Popieluch, and Konrad Raczkowski, PhD.
An important item on the agenda of the Strategic Management path of he Conference was the joint presentation of the management representatives of PCG, Blackboard, and Microsoft - all global leaders of the education market, who committed themselves to close cooperation to improve the quality of management of Polish higher education. The presentation was led by Professor Łukasz Sułkowski (President of PCG Academia), Mr. Juan Ramon Alegret (Vice President of Blackboard), and Mrs. Cecylia Szymańska (Director of Education Sector at Microsoft Poland).
The Operational Management path began with a closed meeting of users of PCG Academia's products and services, during which representatives of universities from all over the country met discussed the vision of the development of the University 10 System - a leading student information system. During the day the companies presented their solutions for universities: Blackboard - supplier of Blackboard Learn Ultra and Blackboard Open LMS and partner of PCG in Poland, Microsoft - provider of Microsoft 365 platform, Pearson - provider of interactive content for blended learning, and Inspera - provider of electronic platform for students examination.
