PCG Academia steps up its drive for market leadership. Tomasz Buczak returns as CIO and Vice President of the Management Board
5 November 2026 5 min readingTomasz Buczak returns to PCG Academia as Chief Information Officer and Vice President of the Management Board, effective from the beginning of November 2026. With more than 20 years of experience across the technology, banking and payments sectors, he will be responsible for strategic technology development, new product directions and scaling the company’s operations. His return reinforces PCG Academia’s ambition to become Poland’s leading technology provider for the public sector and continue its international expansion.
For PCG Academia, this marks another step towards building a company capable of supporting universities throughout their digital development — from student services and teaching to research management, finance, HR and administration. The next phase of its strategy focuses on developing integrated solutions, making greater use of artificial intelligence and extending the company’s offering beyond higher education.
“Our ambition is clear: we want to be the number one technology provider for the public sector in Poland. We intend to earn that position through the quality of our products, successful implementations and the trust of our clients. Tomasz’s return gives us added strength to deliver on that plan. He combines an understanding of PCG and the public sector with experience gained in organisations where technology must operate reliably and at enormous scale,” says Łukasz Nowak, President of the Management Board at PCG Academia.
Returning with experience of operating at scale
Tomasz Buczak served as CTO of PCG Academia from 2020 to 2022. During that time, he helped shape the company’s technology strategy and developed its software engineering organisation. He subsequently held leadership positions at NatWest and Polskie ePłatności. In 2026, he became CIO of Polskie ePłatności and Przelewy24, both part of Nexi Group, leading a team of more than 150 IT professionals. Earlier in his career, he worked at Asseco Poland, where he led the Asseco Innovation Hub.
He returns to PCG Academia with experience in integrating technologies, developing teams and translating innovation into products and business growth.
“I am returning to a company I know well, but one with significantly greater capabilities and ambitions today. Together with Łukasz and Mateusz, we want to build an organisation capable of shaping the direction of digital transformation in higher education. My role will be to connect our teams’ ideas and our clients’ needs with technology that enables us to move quickly from concept to a valuable product. My experience in banking and payments has taught me how to scale while maintaining discipline, security and accountability for results,” says Tomasz Buczak, CIO and Vice President of the Management Board at PCG Academia.
Connected systems and faster results for universities
One priority will be to develop ready-to-use solutions built on the WEBCON platform. PCG Academia aims to draw more extensively on its project experience to create standardised products that can be efficiently adapted to the needs of additional universities. This includes electronic student records, HR and administrative processes, and integrations with ERP systems and EZD RP.
The company also plans to expand its ERP offering, combining it with process automation in WEBCON. In parallel, it will define the development direction for a next-generation student information system and scale its research solutions, including cloud-based DSpace services.
For clients, this offers the prospect of a more cohesive working environment: less duplicate data entry, smoother information flows and easier access to digital services.
“Rectors, student administration staff and researchers should see the benefits of technology in their everyday work: a request handled more quickly, reliable data and easier decision-making. That is why we want to connect the systems universities already use and extend their capabilities. Our goal is to build long-term partnerships in which each subsequent investment increases the value of the university’s entire IT environment,” adds Łukasz Nowak.
Artificial intelligence with measurable results
An important part of the new CIO’s remit will be to use AI and automation to improve the design, development and implementation of solutions. PCG Academia also intends to strengthen its cybersecurity expertise and expand its advisory services to help universities protect their digital environments.
“AI must deliver measurable results: save time, reduce repetitive tasks and free people to tackle more complex problems. These are the outcomes we will use to assess its applications. I also want to give our specialists the space to develop their own ideas and turn them into products that public institutions in Poland and abroad will use,” says Tomasz Buczak.
From a strong position in education to leadership in public sector technology
Higher education remains the foundation of PCG Academia’s business. The next stage of the company’s development involves strengthening collaboration with universities in Poland and abroad while gradually expanding into healthcare, public institutions and state-owned enterprises. Initial proposals submitted to major public institutions mark the first steps in this expansion, drawing on the company’s expertise in process automation, systems integration and data management.
“Our ambition is to become the number one provider of technology services for the public sector in Poland and establish a strong presence in the international education market. We are building on the experience gained from working with universities, developing products and partnerships that will enable us to reach new client groups. Tomasz brings experience in scaling technology and organisations to this plan. Together, we want to translate that experience into greater capabilities for PCG Academia and tangible value for our clients,” concludes Łukasz Nowak.
