Prof. Volodymyr Bugrov
27 September 2023 3 min readingVolodymyr Bugrov was born in a family of teachers on 10 November 1967 in the town of Buchach in the Ternopil region. He graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv with honours in 1991.
During 1986-1988 he undertook active military service in the Armed Forces of the USSR (military unit 55654 of the Main directorate of the special construction of the USSR Ministry of Defense).
In 1991 he became a postgraduate of the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In 1995 he graduated with a degree in ontology, gnoseology and phenomenology (09.00.01). In June 1996 he successfully defensed his PhD thesis on “Language and symbol in the context of understanding.”
From November 1995 to September 1998 he worked as an Assistant at the Department of Philosophy and Methodology of Science of the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. Since October 1998 Volodymyr Bugrov has worked as an Associate Professor at the Department of History of Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (KNU). In 2000 he was given the title of Associate Professor.
From November 1998 to January 2009 – Deputy Dean for Research at the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
Since February 2013 – professor of the Department of History of Philosophy at the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. In May 2014 he became a Professor. From June 2014 to January 2015 he acted as Head of the Department of History of Philosophy of the Faculty of Philosophy at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
From January 2009 to April 2021 – Vice-Rector for Scientific and Pedagogical work at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
On 24 March 2021 he was elected rector of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv by secret ballot. By the decree of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine he has been appointed as rector of the University for the period from 30 April 2021 to 29 April 2026.
Volodymyr Bugrov is the author of over 100 scientific, educational and methodological works. He was an academic adviser of 5 PhD candidates.
He is a High-achiever of Education of Ukraine (2001). Volodymyr Bugrov is an Honored Worker of Education of Ukraine (2014). He was granted the Order of Merit of the third grade (2017).
He is a member of the National group of the maintenance of the Bologna process. Volodymyr Bugrov is a co-author of the Strategic development plan of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. He is a member of working groups on the development of over 10 legal acts in the realm of higher education.
Volodymyr Bugrov is married, his wife is a lecturer in philosophy. His son Myroslav (born 1995) is a postgraduate of the Faculty of Philosophy of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv.
