In an era of growing demand for open access to knowledge, Lublin University of Technology has decided to implement, with the help of PCG Academia, an institutional scientific repository based on the latest version of DSpace 7.

The aim of the project is not only to collect and archive the scientific output of the university, but also to efficiently manage knowledge and disseminate teaching and learning materials. The publications, research data, teaching materials and all other teaching aids placed in the repository will implement the tenets of the open access policy – green open access, thus making it possible to make available publications that cannot be available in published form due to the policies of various publishing houses.

The contract signed between Lublin University of Technology and PCG Academia includes the delivery and implementation of an on-premise model repository in two language versions – Polish and English. A new user interface will be created, aligned with the university’s graphic identity. With a view to making it accessible to all users, the repository’s website will be responsive and therefore compliant with WCAG guidelines, ensuring easy access for people with disabilities. PCG Academia will also migrate data from the university’s existing knowledge base systems and integrate the repository with the university’s authentication system based on the Keycloak tool.

“By choosing a DSpace-based repository, Lublin University of Technology is moving towards international visibility and fulfilling the high standards set by Coalition S for open science. The numerous integrations – with SCOPUS, WOS, Crossreef, PubMed, SherpaRomeo and ORCID databases – will not only facilitate the work of the university staff, but also help build the university’s image on the international arena,” – Luke Wawer, Director of Development and Innovation at PCG Academia, said.

DSpace 7 is one of the most modern and widely used repositories in the world, used by more than 3,000 institutions. DSpace, is also the only software available that fulfills the principals of the state’s information architecture in terms of openness (open source), transparency (publicly available documentation), data reuse and technology neutrality, which public institutions should follow. PCG Academia is the only official partner of LYRASIS in Poland. We have been involved in the implementation, maintenance and development of the DSpace scientific repository for many years. Our skills and experience in this field are confirmed by our LYRASIS Gold Partner status.
