Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in the terms 2016-2020 and 2020-2024, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 2012-2016. He received his PhD degree in 1994, habilitation degree in 2002, and in 2007 the President of Poland granted him the title of Professor of Technical Sciences. In 2008 he was appointed to the Scientific Council of the Research and Development Centre for Mechanical Devices OBRUM in Gliwice, where from 2009 he was the Director for Technical Affairs, and then the Director for Development (until 2011). He was one of the initiators of the establishment of the Center for Advanced Security and Defense Technologies at the university, which he led in 2014-2015. Since 2011, he has been a member of the Committee on Mechanics of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Committee on Mechanical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and in 2011-2015 he participated in the work of the Council of Scientific Societies at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 2020, he serves as the Chairman of the Mechanical Engineering Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. From 2014 to 2016 he was Vice-Chairman of the College of Deans of Mechanical Engineering Faculties. Since 2018 he is the Vice President of the Polish Academic and Economic Forum, since 2020 he is a member of the Silesian Experts Forum, and since 2021 of the Academy of Engineering in Poland. In 2019 he was elected Deputy President of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Universities of Technology, and in 2020 – President of the Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in Poland and the Regional Conference of Rectors of Academic Schools in the term of 2020-2024. The scientific achievements of Prof. A. Mężyk include 180 publications, 6 monographs, 18 patents, 2 industrial designs, 9 patent applications, 14 completed doctoral dissertations as a supervisor. Prof. Mężyk has been awarded, among others, the Silver Cross of Merit, the „Diamond Engineer” of the Przegląd Techniczny journal, the Honorary Golden Badge of the Polish Chamber of Commerce, the Award of the Polish Promotional Emblem Foundation „Poland Now” – Promoter of Poland and the title of doctor honoris causa of Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iaşi. His main research interests are machine dynamics, mechatronics and military vehicle design.
