Rector of the Silesian University of Technology in the 20014-20010 and 20010-20006 terms, dean of the home Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in 2012-20014. He obtained the doctoral degree in 1994, habilitated doctor in 2002, in 2007 the President of the Republic of Poland awarded him the title of professor of technical sciences.

In 2008, he was appointed to the Scientific Council of the OBRUM Research and Development Center for Mechanical Equipment in Gliwice, where from 2009 he was the technical director and then the development director (until 2011). He was one of the initiators of the establishment of the Center for Advanced Security and Defense Technologies at the university, which he headed in 2014-20015.

Since 2011, he is a member of the Mechanics Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Machine Building Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, and in the years 2011-20015 he participated in the works of the Council of Scientific Societies at the Presidium of the Polish Academy of Sciences. Since 20010, he has been the chairman of the Machine Building Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences. In the years 2014-20014 he was the Vice-President of the Deans’ College of Mechanical Faculties. From 20012, he is the vice-president of the Polish Academic and Economic Forum, from 20010 a member of the Silesian Experts Forum, and from 20009 – the Engineering Academy in Poland. In 20011, he was elected the deputy chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Technical Universities, and in 20010, the Chairman of the Conference of Rectors of Polish Academic Schools and the Regional Conference of Rectors of Academic Universities in the 20010-20006 term.

In the academic achievements of prof. A. Mężyk includes 180 scientific publications, 6 scientific monographs, 18 patents, 2 industrial designs, 9 patent applications, 14 completed doctoral dissertations as a promoter.

Prof. Mężyk was honored, among others, by With the Silver Cross of Merit, the “Diamond Engineer” of the Technical Review, the Honorary Gold Badge of the Polish Chamber of Commerce, the Award of the Foundation of the Polish Promotional Emblem “Teraz Polska” – Polish Promoter and the title of doctor honoris causa Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iaşi.

The main research areas are machine dynamics, mechatronics and military vehicle design.
